Community media encompasses a wide range of community communication outlets….

Community radio,  community theatre and dance troupes, video, community newsletters, community billboards, roadshows and art, community information and documentation resource centres, among others.

Community media are forms of community communication outlets that serve as sources of a community’s culture, artistic creativity, knowledge, meanings, values, identity and free expression. Despite their importance and value, community media are rarely acknowledged and are under – represented in national and global scenes. These forms of community media hardly receive support and thus function in the fringes of the mainstream media and cultural outlets struggling for their survival and voice.

Community media encompasses a wide range of community communication outlets such as community radio,  community theatre and dance troupes, video, community newsletters, community billboards, roadshows and art, community information and documentation resource centres, among others.

Community radio is considered as the flagship of community media as they are able to effectively integrate and promote other forms of community media. Since its inception, KCOMNET has focused its engagements on the development of community radio in Kenya supporting community radio stations in Kenya to address pressing socio-economic and local governance issues at the grassroots communities.

Our vision is to be the key driver of the national community media movement and voice of social change in Kenya. Our Mission is to champion and popularize community communication initiatives through networking, capacity building, content and policy advocacy for transformative social change in Kenya.
