Farewell to a Colleague, The Legacy of Alex Ikambi.
In the bustling offices of the Kenya Community Media Network (KCOMNET), there is a sense of bittersweet anticipation lingering in the air. Colleagues hurry about their tasks, their minds occupied by the impending departure of one of their own – Alex Ikambi. Alex, a beloved staff member, is about to embark on a new assignment, leaving behind a trail of mixed feelings among his coworkers.
Tom Mboya, the National Coordinator of KCOMNET, speaks of Alex with admiration and warmth. “Alex is more than just a colleague; he is a selfless force within our organization. He sacrifices his own comfort and needs to ensure the prosperity of others.”
As the news of Alex’s departure spreads throughout the office, emotions run high. Ann, the finance admin, can’t help but shed tears as she reminisces about Alex’s unwavering support during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. “He is always there, offering assistance without hesitation. His kindness and compassion leave an indelible mark on all of us.”
Christine, a project officer at KCOMNET, echoes Ann’s sentiments, recalling a time when Alex stepped in to help her fulfill her duties during a period of illness. “He doesn’t just excel in his own tasks; he goes above and beyond to ensure that his colleagues are supported and cared for.”
Lewi Chalo, the IT officer, nods in agreement. “Alex embodies the true spirit of teamwork. He understands the importance of collaboration and camaraderie in achieving our goals.”
Even beyond the walls of KCOMNET, Alex’s impact is felt deeply. Nadja Maria Becker, an international peacebuilding advisor GIZ- CPS, and Faith Chege, a national peace advisor GIZ-CPS, praise Alex for his unwavering dedication to fostering positive working relationships. “Alex’s ability to connect with others and build bridges of understanding is instrumental in our collaborative efforts,” remarks Nadja.
Mwasi Dorren, another project officer at KCOMNET, reflects on the significance of cultivating strong bonds with colleagues. “In a fast-paced and demanding environment, having a supportive and cohesive team is essential. Alex teaches us the importance of empathy, communication, and mutual respect.”
Amidst the farewell sentiments, Alex himself is seen with a mix of sadness and excitement. Though he is leaving behind cherished colleagues, he is also eager to embrace new experiences in a different continent. His smile, though tinged with nostalgia, carries the promise of adventure and discovery.
As the time draws near for Alex to bid farewell, the office is filled with a mixture of sadness and gratitude. While his departure marks the end of an era, it also serves as a reminder of the enduring legacy he has left behind. Through his selflessness, compassion, and dedication to teamwork, Alex has not only enriched the lives of his colleagues but has also set an inspiring example for future generations to follow.
And so, as Alex embarks on his new assignment, he carries with him the fond memories and heartfelt gratitude of those he has touched along the way. Though his presence will be missed, his spirit will continue to live on, guiding and inspiring all those who have been fortunate enough to call him colleague.
Alex has been with the organization for the last 8 years, serving as the project officer for Kenya Community Media Network’s Umoja Radio for Peace, collaborating with 42 community radio stations across the country.
